Side Quests and Simplify
I’ve got several different iterations of the wild plant leaves monoprint idea percolating. I love it when one idea turns into a bunch of different side quests, and I give myself lots of different problems to solve. In the sketchbook today I painted this figure with simplification as the goal. Til the morn, Suzanne 834/900

Act on Ideas
One thing leads to another, as always, and yesterdays foraging in the jungle of my garden, which led to some gel prints recording my favourite leaves, led to more foraging and more gel printing, which led to this idea that I’m experimenting with in my sketchbook. It’s rough, and needs tweaking, refining, and a change…

Chaos and Calm
I spent most of today decluttering and spring cleaning my studio. I did a lot of rearranging and organising and I’ve ended up with a lot more floor space, which makes me happy. At one point I didn’t think I would have any time left for making some art, but I managed to get it…

Morning Painting
The heatwave has passed, and I got up early this morning and opened the windows to let some cool air in. This is the first time I’ve opened the windows for two weeks, because of the pollution from the fire at Ladybank. I’m not convinced all that has cleared, but the house was needing some…

Blue Monday (not my mood)
Filling the facing page to the inside cover of the new sketchbook I started yesterday with a figure drawing of the same pose using a Neocolor II crayon. Top tip: always check the pot of gesso you are about to spread over your paper is in fact a pot of gesso, and not an actual…

New Sketchbook Day
Charcoal and gesso on the inside cover of a new sketchbook. It’s technically not a new sketchbook as it has been in my stash for a while. It’s thicker paper than the spiralbound ones, so perhaps a bit more sturdy for the type of layering I tried the other day. Til the morn, Suzanne 820/900

Lush Texture
I’m not sure how well the texture shows up in this photo, but there is a lot of texture on the page. I used handmade textured papers to see how they work with charcoal and figure drawing. I am now obsessed with the circles handmade textured paper, and I’m going to make loads tomorrow. The…

Quick Poses
Very much enjoying setting my timer for very quick poses this week. This one is worked with an Artgraf tailor’s shape water-soluble crayon and charcoal. Til the morn, Suzanne 817/900
