Dangerous Foliage

I have moved onto a wood panel (12″x12″) trying out the various methods of printing these leaves, and I am enjoying the results. I wasn’t being precious about the collage, so there is some creasing, but this isn’t about perfection, it’s about exploring.

The garlic mustard plant is quite fascinating, and it is a great plant for wildlife. Orange Tip butterfly caterpillars will feed off it, so I will be keeping an eye out for those. Another fun fact that I did not know until yesterday is that the young plants in their first year have cyanide in the leaves. The leaves I am handling are from established plants, and I’m not eating them, so no worries there.

Using caput mortuum paint in a painting featuring leaves that might contain cyanide is a choice.

Til the morn,
