Complex Horse and Cloth Hare Head

The last thing I did today was sketch this horse in my sketchbook. It’s a lovely, challenging reference that I’ve come back to a few times. It’s very good for the practise of reducing complex things to simple shapes.

Reducing complex things to simple shapes was also the theme of one of the other projects I was working on today, the idea of the hare stump doll. I am inventing a pattern for the hare head, and I started out with some sketches and trying to figure out how best to create such a thing.

I came up with an approximation of what I think I need, but in the end the only way to figure it our properly is to cut the pattern out in fabric and make it up, and then decide what adjustments need to be made. I have the two pieces for the front of the head cut and tacked together, and it looks promising. I am slightly concerned that the head will be too big for the body, but since the body is only a cut pattern so far, I suppose the body could be made larger.

Our weather has changed, and we are heading into a warm spell, and I do not like this, especially upstairs in the studio. I am in Scotland and considering buying an air conditioner ffs, and the internet is full of people who think climate change isn’t real. Pfft.

Til the morn,

Thank you 🙂 I don’t think I’ll ever get a clean line with the brushes I use for these 😀
