Sensory Overload
Today has been a LOT. I am struggling with the smell and my allergies are going mad with the stench still blanketing us from the rubbish facility that is miles away. I feel so bad for the people living close to the place because if it’s affecting me this much, they must be in absolute…

Disrupted Day
I had visitors today, and we are still experiencing the stench of the ongoing fire at a plastic recycling facility some twelve miles away. It’s very unpleasant, and there’s not much we can do but hope for a big storm to clear the air. I painted a couple of wee canvases, and I am thinking…

Blue Monday (not my mood)
Filling the facing page to the inside cover of the new sketchbook I started yesterday with a figure drawing of the same pose using a Neocolor II crayon. Top tip: always check the pot of gesso you are about to spread over your paper is in fact a pot of gesso, and not an actual…

New Sketchbook Day
Charcoal and gesso on the inside cover of a new sketchbook. It’s technically not a new sketchbook as it has been in my stash for a while. It’s thicker paper than the spiralbound ones, so perhaps a bit more sturdy for the type of layering I tried the other day. Til the morn, Suzanne 820/900

Lush Texture
I’m not sure how well the texture shows up in this photo, but there is a lot of texture on the page. I used handmade textured papers to see how they work with charcoal and figure drawing. I am now obsessed with the circles handmade textured paper, and I’m going to make loads tomorrow. The…

Quick Poses
Very much enjoying setting my timer for very quick poses this week. This one is worked with an Artgraf tailor’s shape water-soluble crayon and charcoal. Til the morn, Suzanne 817/900

Fast Charcoal
Today’s share is from the current A3 figure drawing sketchbook. My reaction to figure pose images is interesting, as I find none of the poses as interesting as the ones from Dinoopis, but the bodies themselves are just as fascinating. I definitely need a certain attitude in the model, though. This was a ten minute…

Angles and Curves
Today’s share is a first go at this fun pose in my A3 sketchbook. I used a stick of compressed charcoal that had somehow gained a coat of gesso. I don’t know. Turns out scratching legs and feet cleans a dirty crayon. Don’t mind me while I keep one eye on the train wreck that…

Always Find Time
I had almost no time today for painting due to other commitments, which is quite unusual, but I managed a twenty minute session with my sketchbook, so all is not lost. Til the morn, Suzanne 814/900

Smudging
Today’s share is a 100 Day Project 6×6″ canvas with a couple of layers of charcoal and clear gesso. I am trying, on this tiny scale, to build layers of charcoal marks for the figure drawing. I might still paint, or I might use soft pastels, or pan pastels. This week’s colour obsession is raw…

Sketching Day
Today’s share is my daily page in my A3 sketchbook. I was in the mood for sketching today, rather than full painting. Our election result finally tallied after 1am, and the last result was needed to define who came second, and is therefore effectively the opposition. For the first time in the life of the…
