Forty Two of Forty Four of One Hundred

Day 42 and here are 42 of the 44 mini canvases I have painted so far. I’m definitely not running on empty as I think I was by this stage last year, so that’s telling me something. I’m happy with the way these look as a collection, even though some are very clearly unfinished.

This is one of today’s pieces, the other one is not much to look at so far, and I couldn’t fit it in the pretty rectangle, so its day will come. I’m making a statement with the stencil, because I read a comment from someone who said they didn’t like stencils “because it makes them think of craft”. It was a fascinating hot-take, especially coming from a woman, when historically “craft” has always been a derogatory term for women’s creative work.

So a stencil the same size as the figure drawing painted by a woman using a reference photo of a women who presents herself through the female gaze. Crafty.

Much of today has been spent staring at a canvas, squinting, really. I don’t think it’s procrastination, more, where the fuck is this going? I threw some red paint on, which seems to be a go-to for me when I want to shake something up. It didn’t work. It’s all good.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
