The In-Between Times

We are in the In-between Times where no-one knows what day it is. Someone asked me “what days is bins?” and I said “Saturday. But I don’t know what that means.”

Today was bins, and they were emptied, and still all is not well in the world. I wanted to write “all is well in the world” but you can only say that if you live in a cave, or some billion pound cushioned bubble of privilege. All is not well.

Another thing that happens in the In-between Times besides trying to figure out when the bins are collected is the whole New Year New Me shenanigans. I am one of those people who tries very hard not to fall for that crap because it’s generally about being nasty to yourself, and then being more nasty to yourself when the weight of three hundred life change goals becomes utterly unsustainable.

Instead what I do is try to come up with a word or phrase for the year, and see where that takes me, so that’s what I’ve been thinking about. One word which is definitely on the table is “disrupt”, and I was working with that word today as I was having a buzzing about day in the studio. Making things nice, then disrupting them.

It was one of those day where I got into the zone and had several different surfaces rotating, and it was all about play and mess and not thinking about outcomes, and a lot of interesting things happened.

The above happened in my A3 sketchbook that has been the journey for this year, and I’m in the last stages of this book so it’s interesting that today one of the most interesting pages happened.

I think making art is about knowing the fundamentals, but it’s more about getting out of your own way, which is what I achieved today.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
