I have watched a few demonstrations using pan pastels, and I’ve followed a couple of classes, and never really found a way with the medium that feels natural to me. I do really like using them, even though I have this weird conflict with dry mediums because I can’t be arsed with the whole sealing them and preventing them from spreading everywhere thing.
I had made this drippy background in my sketchbook yesterday, so I decided to try out the pan pastels on it. I put down some clear gesso to give a bit of tooth, and started off with the lightest values and a white pan pastel. I only own four colours in this medium, so a limited palette.
I really like the way the pan pastels play with the background, so I’m going to explore that more.
Just have to seal it now, and of course the forecast is rain.
Til the morn,
Suzanne
