Comparison Sketchbook Spread

Yesterday (L) compared with today (R).

Yesterday I used vermillion, cad yellow, and cobalt blue for my palette, and today I switched the cobalt for ultramarine, so it’s a nice spread for comparing the difference a single colour can make.

I inadvertently tested out the difference between two similar brushes, but this was unintentional. I thought I had picked out the same brush as yesterday, and was becoming increasingly frustrated at it’s softness, and wondering how it could possibly feel so different to the way it handled paint yesterday. In the end I put it down in disgust and went to choose something else.

A while ago I bought two brushes in the same size and make, but one was a Series A, and one was a Series B, so slightly different quality. I had completely forgotten about that until today when I was giving up on my brush, and realised I was not using the same brush as yesterday, just a very similar one. So I am now more of a fan of this brush than I was yesterday, which amuses me.

Anyway, the colour comparison is interesting, even if the painting is still making me itch over on the left side with that hand and foot combo. I will be going again with this one, until I figure that corner out.

My arm/shoulder drama continues, and so I am not going to be painting for a few days. I need to pack a travel art kit, and the arm drama has me deciding to go simple with no paint and hopefully the rest will restore what passes for normality in this meat sack.

I might just do a few days of drawing that hand/foot combo until I scribble it into submission.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
