A ten-minute warm-up sketch in my A4 sketchbook to start the day, followed by a portrait with the face showing.

Late last night I was thinking about my hands and feet sketchbook, and how much I am enjoying it, and I had the thought that I should start another A3 book just focused on portraits. So I had to get up and unwrap one of the blank sketchbooks I had stashed, and leave myself a post-it with instructions to do just that.
I started with a fluorescent violet acrylic for the ground, because I am having fun trying out all the brights for this. The reference is one I have tried before, and it’s a tricky one because the angle and tilt of the face is quite subtle. I didn’t quite nail it here, but I was having a lot of fun scrubbing paint on with a large crappy brush.
I used a very limited Zorn palette consisting of vermillion, yellow ochre, black and titanium white.
Til the morn,
