Me, my shitty brushes, a sketchbook, and I. Painting profiles are harder than I think, but I enjoyed the way I built this one in a probably unconventional way. More a jigsaw of shapes, starting with swirling mark-making for the hair, and extending from there, than a structured placement.
One of my intentions with this daily art project has always been to develop a sketchbook habit, and I am happy that I am doing that, but I’m always trying to find new inspiration for sketchbooks. I have collected an abundance of blank ones now, and I am starting to have themes for my books, like the current A3 one focused on hands and feet portraits.
I have so many landscape photos that I have taken myself that I think it’s time to try painting some, so I’m looking at my sketchbooks and trying to choose one for that idea. I used to tell myself I can’t paint faces, so I’m sure I can get over the I don’t know how to paint landscapes malarkey. It’s just paint.
On the subject of sketchbooks, I loved the latest YouTube offering from Orla Stevens: 7 Sketchbook Ideas. I love her take on art, and this wee video is timely for me as I am looking at ways to develop my sketchbook practise more. You might like it too.
Til the morn,
