My studio was overgrown with clutter which isn’t really clutter, it’s art supplies and wips, but it had moved on from creative chaos to just chaos, so I cleared the decks and reset everything, and that’s always a good feeling.
I also spent some time looking at all the photos I took during our recent trip. I take a lot of photos, but I never think about them much when I am wandering about thinking “what do I want to paint what do I want to do???”, so I decided to try something different.
I chose nine images that have a loose theme and printed them off. I played around a bit, and arranged them on a couple of cheap cork boards to create a kind of mood board. Well, two mood boards.
It’s going to be fun seeing what happens when I paint from them, especially since I rarely paint landscapes, or use much green.
With all the new sketchbooks I’ve acquired that I had to find places for today, I decided I need to finish at least one book this week. The one I was using during my season of 20 minute graphite portrait sketches has something like 6 blank pages left to fill, so I’m going to put some effort in, and a bit of hip grease, and get that one moved to the shelf of completed sketchbooks.
It feels like a while since I made a graphite portrait in that book, and I was amused at how rusty I felt. It’s not just my hip that needs the muscle memory ignited.

Til the morn,
Suzanne
