Arses

Today I have been musing about an argument I once had with a history lecturer about empires. Their argument was that of course empires did not exist anymore, and I used the course-specified definitions of empire to illustrate my argument that this was not true.

One of the examples I used to illustrate my argument was the continued existence of peripheries far flung from the metropole that continue to exert power over peoples around the world. A very specific example I used was Diego Garcia.

This weekend Diego Garcia was used to refuel aircraft en-route to Iran, this was possible because the state which controls the far-flung periphery granted permission for the other state to use the outpost.

I was also musing about another area of history, notably the early 1950s when the democratically elected prime minister of Iran planned to nationalise the Iranian oil industry, and two states initiated a coup against him that effectively ended both Iranian democracy, and the then strong allyship between Iran and Israel.

Those states being the two alluded to in the previous paragraph about the tiny archipelago in the Pacific.

As I was musing about these things, I was painting arses, because frankly that’s my current take on the despicable white men leading us into a period that strongly resembles the 1913/14 era.

Well done chaps, it’s not like there’s anything else you could be dealing with, like climate change for example, nope, all three of you need a war for your collectively plummeting ratings.

Arses

Til the morn,
