
I mixed an interesting blue-grey today. It’s not a payne’s grey, but it’s got a similar feel. I used caput mortuum violet, phthalo blue and van dyke brown for the mix, and white to get some lighter values.
This is a horsie I started on a wood panel ages ago with just a rough sketch, so today I corrected some of the things I wasn’t liking, and used the paint mix for an underpainting starting to pick out some values.
I had some of the paint mix leftover, so I used it in my sketchbook for another go at the figure reference I was using yesterday. I have to say the flippin heat of the day is drying the paint so fast that I can’t get quite as much scrubby mark-making as I like.
