Elphin Is Political

Someone might suggest that yesterday’s boat painting was too political, and they’d prefer I stick to badgers. I’ve had exactly those sorts of things said to me, so it’s not really about “might”.

Badgers are political too, sad to say. Their very existence and right to life has been the subject of political debate for longer than I’ve been alive. In Scotland we only recently passed legislation outlawing snares, which are used to trap badgers, and other beasties, and often they suffer a long, slow death agonising in the trap.

Badgers, and other beasties, are set to become political in a different way, as the current PM continues his campaign to destroy natural habitat so big business can profit. It’s anyone’s guess if Scottish badgers will be more protected than English ones, but that again makes badgers political.

I painted Elphin again today, and this sketchbook that I resisted for a while seems to be evolving into an animal book.

I spent the rest of my time working on a doll project that I have bubbling away in the back of my brain. There’s not much to show for it, but I did sketch out and cut a pattern. I also selected a piece of fabric for a base layer of the fabric I’m going to attempt to make for the doll. That’s going to be an adventure.

I also uncovered another fabric that I had forgotten I had. It’s slightly plushy, and I had been browsing some plush doll fabrics with a view to making a different doll, and here I have the fabric in my stash.

Tomorrow might be the day I return to that textured painting. We’ll see.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
