I spent some time yesterday making collage fodder with a view to using it for this class project, and then got up and did something completely different from the plan.
I made the background, then sketched this cute quine in with a few charcoal marks, and then did my underpainting with caput mortuum. Next I did the first pass, sketching in the mid tones and darks, and getting a covering over the background. I’m a bit in love with the way the background ended up with a sparkle star by her left eye, and I might leave that happy accident in.
This is for Let’s Face It 2025 Week 1 with Kara Bullock, and although I’ve decided to use the same reference, I’m putting my own spin on it. I’m having a wee moment noticing the way my freehand sketching has improved with all that practise last year. It’s good to see your own progress, especially when you know how much emotional tussling went on some days to get to the practise.
Now, off to check the news to see if Elon Musk has invaded Scotland, yet. Good grief.
