I have this A5 journal that I have been playing with for months. The project started with sessions of random mark-making, stencilling, stamping, scribbling, and whatever came to hand, until every page was no longer blank.
In the meantime I have also used up excess paint, written in phrases, and occasionally worked a spread to a conclusion. I think I’ve done that twice before today.
At some point the book became kind of stuck, for me. I would often pick it up and flip through with an idea of starting the day with an art journal page, and then I would close it and put it away again because none of the pages were speaking to me.
Of course it never needs to be “finished”, it can just be what it is, a place to be messy and colourful. There are no rules.
That said, today I dived in and decided to Do Something with a spread. This is another version of the reference photo I am spending time with just now, which is the also the reference for the first Let’s Face It class which drops tomorrow. So I’m in the process of coming up with ideas for how I want to respond to the class.
This is done in Stabilo All, Neocolor IIs and clear gesso.
I added the lettering on the other side, because I kept hearing this phrase as I was working, and it’s an art journal, so…
Other things I got up to today – prepping canvases, being disappointed at the lack of snow after all the hype, and doing a tonne of gel prints that may or may not make it into the painting as collage.
Til the morn,
Suzanne
