I spent Hogmanay tidying my studio room, cleaning brushes, and sorting out the big shelf with portfolios and larger paper sheets. My intention was to make space to slot in the large box of A1 paper that arrived yesterday, and it fits in perfectly, while being easy to pull out to grab a sheet of paper when I want one.
In the process I discovered that I had not in fact thrown out a stash of Letraset and Decadry sheets that I had been thinking about recently. I am over the moon to have found them in a portfolio, complete with a 1993 date on the price stickers. I honestly thought they would be gone as I remember several times thinking ‘I will never use those’… then a wee while back I was watching a YeatesMakes video, and he was using old Letrasets with his gel plate, and I suddenly needed them, and now I have them 🙂 a good day.
I found these four little works in my 6×8 watercolour blocks that I have used for 100 mini paintings, and I decided I wanted to take them off the blocks and call them done, so all the blocks are freed up to start the new year. To finish them up I didn’t want to paint them. I had started them all together, made five, and then one got painted a while back, but today I wanted to go back to the original idea, and batch them.
They all had a top layer of clear gesso to preserve the messy Stabilo All and water effects, and that make a nice toothy surface for coloured pencils, so I decided to pull one pencil at a time, use it on each piece, and create a similar-but-different set.
I also made a video recap of 2024. I am not well-practised at videos, and just use a wee app on my phone, so that’s a thing I want to pencil in learning more about for 2025. I found that I didn’t have enough space to include all the art pieces I wanted to include – I have made so much art this year and I’m taking that as a win – so I whittled it down to the number allowed by the app.
I’m still not convinced I want to be on Instagram, but I gave it a whirl with Reels to see what happens, and I’ve popped it on YouTube too:
Oh haha. It’s not available here. I marked it Not For Kids because there are two paintings of breasts, and I didn’t want to mess with getting banned when I’ve only put one short and one slightly longer bit up on the site. If they were man breasts there would be no issue, so fuck the Patriarchy.
Thank you for reading along this year, and for the likes and comments too. I’m just here doing some accountability to self on making art, and it’s absolutely lovely that some people have subscribed, and read, so THANK YOU.
Happy Hogmanay,
Til next year,
Suzanne
