Bluesky and Sketchbook

My favourite thing about my sketchbooks is the way that you can go from ‘that’s nae bad’ to ‘I’ve forgotten how to see and draw’ on the same spread. Aside from just the fun of it, it helps me to decide which reference I’m feeling for a project.

Lol.

In other news, I have been trying out using Bluesky for posting art, and while I am not convinced the site is the whole solution to the degredation of social media by the billionaire tech bros, as far as art and artists looking for an alternative to Instagram, it seems to have some potential.

First, Bluesky has no intention of using the app to scrape people’s art to train an AI machine, something that both Instagram and Twitter are doing. Second, Instagram is notorious for not bothering to show your art to your followers, the people, by definition, who want to see your art.

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know my opinion on stealing people’s art for AI training and AI slop, so it won’t be a surprise I’d prefer a site that doesn’t do that. On the second thing, well, I only have twelve followers on Bluesky, and I’ve only posted two pieces of art, and my engagement is way better than anything that happens on the gram.

So I’m going to keep playing and see what happens. If you’re on there, and want to follow me, you can find me @thrummiebizzum.bsky.social

Til the morn,
