I’m firing on all cylinders today, and I’m thoroughly thankful for such a productive and enjoyable day. I painted all day.
I painted all day.
I’m savouring that, it was perfect.
I prepped four wood panels that are potentially going to become paintings for an art call. I have no idea what I want to paint, but they are almost fully primed and ready. I finished prepping two sheets of watercolour paper in the same way, so there was a nice rotation thing going on for a bit.
In between layers I got stuck into the mixed media piece that I have been working on. I decided that whatever it ended up like today, that was going to be the conclusion. I really like that this year I have developed the mindset that painting is a process, and that I can let go of needing something to be perfect, and just resolve and move on, or even leave something unresolved for now.
This is a Let’s Face It class, and I am in catch-up mode for the a couple of the modules, so I don’t want to faff about and get into perfectionism, because I want to finish as many classes as possible before the year end. It’s a personal challenge, there are no rules.
Anyway, here’s where I took the class piece to. I quite liked the gestural nature of the painting, and not getting too hung up on details.

To try and stay current, I started this week’s LFI class too, and since I had another class by the same artist in the To Do corner, and she uses a similar palette, I decided to have a go at working on both paintings at the same time. I quite like that process, so we’ll see how it goes.
I’m using the reference the artist used for this week’s class, and I chose my own reference for the other painting, that’s the one with the crown thing going on.

I decided to stop at the underpainting stage so that I wasn’t leaving a lot of oil paint out overnight. It also leaves me with a Thing To Do tomorrow, without having to think too much about it.
I am possibly going to be thankful for having two paintings to do tomorrow to distract me from…. THAT.
So, a fun day with lots of flow that I’d like to have more often.
Til the morn,
Suzanne
