Turquoise and Mars Red Oxide

It occurred to me yesterday that since I finished the last A4 sketchbook, I have lost a little bit of momentum, and the new A4 sketchbook and I are not having the same relationship as the old one. I don’t know if that makes sense. It probably doesn’t, I mean they are essentially the same thing – same size, same style, the new one has slightly better paper, but I don’t feel like I have moved in yet.

I have decided today that although the paper is better quality than the old one, it’s not quite up to painting without a gesso layer down first, which I didn’t do today because I just wanted to start painting.

It’s fair to say any turquoise and any of the mars reds is a go-to colour combination for me. I limited the palette to those two colours plus unbleached titanium and mars black. A slightly unsuccessful exercise in value, but I like a lot of other things about it.

Til the morn,
