Using some of my photographs from last week’s trip to Orkney as references, I did some painting in my sketchbook. I limited my palette to three colours and titanium white – phthalo turquoise, naples yellow red and permanent red violet light. I used one scratchy brush for the undersketch, and then one flat brush for the painting, and didn’t clean my brush throughout.

I was not aiming for realism, just having fun.
