Sunday Swatching

Some twat was prevaricating about how pointless swatching colours is, that it isn’t creative, and that it spoils sketchbooks, or wastes them, or some tripe. I was good, and I scrolled on past that negativity like a goddess fully in control of her impulses.

Swatching is cerative practise.

Of course it is.

It tells you how colours look, how a paper absorbs the paint, what colours look like next to each other, and perhaps most importantly what colours you are drawn to.

As an aside, which is of no use to anyone reading, it may tell you you have something called too much paint, or too many colours, or some rubbish, but I’ll file that idea alongside the daft idea that swatching isn’t good practise.

Here’s my yellow to red in acrylics. There are all sorts of brands, and qualities, and consistencies from fluid to heavy body, and everything in between.

There are a couple of swatches that say, well you know what that’s a tube that needs to be used up or let go, and there are a few that are just screaming why don’t I use you more?!?!

Swatch.

Ignore twats.

Happy Sunday.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
