New Art Materials and Hares

Late last night I had an idea which I immediately acted upon. I used my phone to resize one of my large hare wips and printed it, then using charcoal I made a transfer for my gel plate. I transferred it onto a small card, and I will see where it goes from there. It’s definitely an idea with legs.

So yesterday’s ‘non day’ ended on a higher note than expected.

Today I had deep joy as new art materials magically arrived. I don’t know how they got here, it must have been the fairies 😉

First, some nice things from Jackson’s…

The fluid medium was a punt to see if it’s a good alternative for a matt medium I am nearly finished. It isn’t, it’s more fluid, but it’s a happy accident because it’s exactly the consistency I didn’t know I wanted for my sketch paint. It’s not as fluid as airbrush medium, but more fluid than everything else I own.

The world of acrylic mediums is a large and never-ending adventure.

Three new brushes – filberts in small sizes, because I discovered the last few days that I really don’t like short-handled brushes while painting at my easel.

Winsor & Newton profession acrylic in Violet Iron Oxide. I’ll have to dig into the pigment details, but it’s a very close colour to my favourite Caput Mortuum. Also in there is a jar of acrylic in in Yellow Oxide, to add to my collection.

I didn’t buy these two with each other in mind, but when I swatched them in my sketchbook, I like them together.

The Sennelier Abstract pouches are Primary Red, Primary Yellow, and Iridescent Black. I already own the Primary Blue, and I am intrigued with this brand of paint, so I made up the primary set, and did a back colour mixing swatch.

The iridescent black is less black than the Liquitex iridescent graphite I have, but more sparkly, so it’s a definite addition to my arsenal.

A few new stencils arrived in another package, and I tested some out on my sketchbook, along with a tester mix of the Violet Iron Oxide and fluid medium for sketching paint. Since I was still celebrating my little hare monoprint, I went with that for the sketchbook practise.

Til the morn.
