Two Hundred

Given that I wasn’t expecting to last even thirty days at this malarkey, I’m going to reward myself for sticking with this for two hundred days. I think it might be considered a habit now.

I did not, as it happens, complete that sketchbook to coincide with this. I had a feeling that I wouldn’t, but I enjoyed the spice of the motivation. There are six spreads to go, so it will be soon, but today I spent most of my creative time out for a walk enjoying the shift in the trees, and lots of colourful flowers, some in unexpected places, and a soaring Sparrowhawk.

Studio time was limited, but also satisfying. First I can report back that my homemade stay-wet palette exceeded expectations, and not even the thinner smears of mixed paint have dried out. I am ecstatic.

Next up, I set up the beginning of a new experiment in how to deal with acrylic water. I am painting a lot more these days. and that means I have been saving my dirty paint water in jars, hoping it will evaporate and leave the residue, and it worked to a certain extent, but I don’t think Scotland is the ideal location for this, and now it is approaching winter, the water isn’t evaporating fast enough.

The next evolution involves cat litter and a small plastic bin, and this means the water can go in the household waste. I don’t know how much this will be, probably not a lot, but the first week of this experiment will involve a larger deposit because I have several jars and pots saved up, plus a large tub in the garage that has been going since last year, but hasn’t really evaporated much.

The new cat litter system seams like it will be a lot less faff than fannying aboot with jars of water. I don’t know if I will be using the dregs to prime substrates, tho.

I did do a couple of pages in my sketchbook – a self-portrait that looks like Roz from Monster’s Inc. – it’s the glasses, honest. I also did a quick study of a tree that I spotted on my walk that had an interesting shape.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
