I was rooting through my sketchbooks today looking for a drawing, and as I was flicking through one I finished earlier this year, I noticed how vibrant and varied it was compared with the current sketchbook I am working in.
Now at the time when I finished it, I thought it was maybe a bit random and incoherent, but today it felt like a sponge full of ideas that I can pick up and squeeze when I want to.
I feel like my current sketchbook, the one I most often work in, is perhaps coherent, has a theme, but is feeling a bit lacking in colour and randomness. It’s nearly finished, so maybe I am just itching for the last page, and in six months it will have the same feeling I had today with the other one.
I found the drawing, and randomly found another sketch that immediately felt right for the idea I had, and this idea has sprung from an old painting that I dug out of a portfolio and hung up with a peg yesterday. So there’s a bubbling of ideas going on, and a lot of scratchy play in the nearly finished sketchbook, none of which I’m posting because I need to simmer the idea before I share it, or it might lose momentum.
This feels good, because I was feeling yesterday that I am in a bit of a rut, and really I know that I am not, but that’s how it felt yesterday, so it’s good to move through that and feel more inspired today.
Til the morn,
Suzanne
