Critic Versus Paintbrush

The remnants of my recent migraine were crawling around my brain today, combined with not enough sleep brought on by staying up too late last night watching art YouTube and wondering if I am going to go on the rollercoaster that is the learning curve of making vlogs. I’m not sure if it’s me, really.

Instead of making a vlog, I decided to update my Substack, which I haven’t done for months. It sort of fell by the wayside as I got stuck into daily blogging. It was interesting listening to my Inner Critic go ballistic as I wrote a few paragraphs that isn’t really a different thing from what I do her, it’s just a different venue. She had a rapturous party in my already tired brain.

I let her carry on while I got stuck into painting, and filled a few pages in my sketchbooks. It’s funny the way drawing faces has almost become a place of comfort, rather than a thing that terrifies me. I chose some reference photos that I haven’t painted from before, and I especially liked this one, which is giving me a cheeky vibe. I will probably paint from this one again, because there’s a lot of interesting moments to capture, and I have barely scraped the surface.

Thank you for reading 🙂

Til the morn,

Suzanne
