Gesture drawing and mist

100 Day Project Day 47

There really wasn’t a lot of time for art today, although there was probably more time than I’m letting on. Ha. That said, I did go to my sketchbook to do some practise, because this is a daily habit, whether it is minutes or hours, and all my art making matters.

I used an Inktense pencil, which has similar qualities to a Stabilo All pencil, but once it dries after being wet, it doesn’t move the way a Stabilo All does. Both are good in different ways.

I drew from the paint sketch I did yesterday, and I really enjoyed the gestural mark-making I used to shape the face and features. I will probably do a little around the eyes once the water is dry, depending on how it dries, but it’s enough for today.

I wanted to mention an exhibition currently underway at The McManus, Dundee: Eight Women Artists Spanning Four Centuries. There is an inspiring variety of work just in the promo, although I haven’t been to Dundee to see the exhibition. I’d pay for an online tour version, tho.

I guarantee most people won’t have heard of these artists, not least because they won’t be featured in your average art history tome. The largest art history book I own has over 600 pages, and is, apparently “definitive”. It features not a single one of these artists.

I even looked up my copy of The Story of Art Without Men by Katy Hessel, an absolute gem of a book btw, and it doesn’t feature any of these women either. Not one.

I’m being slightly humourous when I say that the idea I will ever be a famous artist is a wild one, and so I am free to make whatever shit art I like, because no-one will see it 😉

Til the morn,

Suzanne
