Resistance is Futile

I’ve been going through a resistance to various things, including the idea of posting every day. Sometimes that happens, and I tend to plod until I come out the other side, and so far I come to some agreement with myself, and carry on.

This short season of questioning my life choices was borne of frustration that my 100 Day Project was beginning to dominate my art practice in a way that felt constrictive, and the place my mind went was to think about not posting every day, because I felt like that was causing the procrastination and resistance, which was leading to less time for more painting.

The thing is the resistance is always there, and it always will be, and looking for excuses is just self-inflicted mind-games. I LIKE posting every day, because it works for me as a motivator to make art. I LIKE this 100 Day Project, because I’m having a lot of fun with it, so I really don’t want to change that part of my current practice.

But something needed to shift somewhere, so I’m back to working on getting started even if the resistance is trying to weigh me down, and this week I’ve had more days of success than, well I won’t say failure, but delayed actions. There’s more going on than my mini paintings, and I’m giving myself space to play without posting what I’m up to, which feels like a compromise of some sorts with my resistance faeries.

Today’s mini figure is very orange, but the paints on the palette for later on are pyrrole red and turquoise and there’s a large canvas on the easel.

As I said, the resistance never goes, it’s just finding ways to navigate it and keep going.

I saw some English Trumper failure ranting about how we don’t need artists, especially now we’ve got AI, so I’m telling my internal resistance that the art is part of the actual resistance to the fascism currently destroying every fucking thing, and my internal resistance needs to get over itself.

More wordy than I have been for a while.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
