An experiment in progress, that may look like a failure, but I haven’t finished, yet, so we’ll see.
I’m enamoured with the image transfer process of charcoal and pastel drawings using a gel plate, so I have tried it out with pan pastels. These adhere to the paper in a different way to soft pastels and charcoal, and, as suspected, they don’t transfer so easily.
It could be that I was a bit impatient with pulling the canvas off the plate, or it could be that the pastels need to be applied more thickly, or it could be that it doesn’t work at all, so more experiments are needed.
In other gel plate news, I received my new 9×12″ gel plate today, and I’m quite excited about it. The largest plate I have is 8×10″, so this is a good size up, although not one of the really big plates I have my eye on.
I haven’t tried it out yet, but the good news is it fits almost perfectly in my storage rack that I used for keeping my other plates, so that means I don’t have to do any rearranging to keep it safe.
I am pleased to report that the biggest success of my daily practice is that when something doesn’t turn out great first time, I no longer think it’s the end of the world. My art experiments are just not the thing that’s bringing that about.
Til the morn,
Suzanne
