Mini Canvas

I bought a bundle of 6×6″ canvas boards with a view to doing lots of little oil paintings for practise, and then went off in a different direction. Today the pile went down by one.

I’m looking at the 55 mini oil portraits I painted last year and wondering who painted them, and also reminding myself I was enjoying the process for almost as long as it lasted.

With these little boards there’s no container around what I’m painting on them, no daily thing going on (as yet) and it’s just a side quest to practise what is apparently the easiest painting medium.

I’ve blocked in this portrait, and I like half of the forehead, have had several disagreements with the glasses, the correcting of which has left the eyes wonky, but it’s a beginning.

I’m trying out a theory I came across, painting the hair using one of the skin tones, and then building the details from there. So far I think it might be something I add to my toolkit.

I had a stonker of a migraine last night, and have a clearer head the day, so that’s good.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
