Terms and Conditions

I have been reading the Terms and Conditions of a couple of things I am thinking about submitting work to, and I have thoughts. Now, I have been seeing a few things online about juried shows and competitions, and how, of course, entrants are paying for the thing without much chance of being selected, and I know this.

I also know that I would like a few deadlines to think about, work towards, and quite possibly sail past without a care in the world. I have noted a few of these down, and even submitted work to one already, and now I am working on some ideas with a view to maybe putting things forward. I am trying not to get too involved in the This Is For thinking because it gets in the way, and tightens me up.

Anyway, two of the potential events I have in mind have Terms and Conditions that include what seems to be an instruction that submitted work cannot have been published or exhibited elsewhere. I can understand the exhibited part, of course, but the published part is questionable, since most artists will publish their work online somewhere, and it is our work.

I am still deciding whether to just scrub these events off my list, so for now I cannae post a couple of things I am working on, which is definitely activating my oppositional particularities 🙂

In other T&Cs discourse, I am struggling with my self-imposed Art First attempt. I fail because I like to sit with my first coffee, not stand and art, so I am immediately knocked off course. I am working on this one.

As you can see above, I have started a new figure sketchbook. I have been discombobulated the last few days since finishing the last one. I don’t think the sketchbook was a project with an ending, I think a large figure sketchbook is part of my practise, so I’m going with it.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
