Look For The Shapes

The reason I love this muse (Dinoopis) is because painting her means I can’t escape looking for shapes and values. That area around the hands is just so complex that you have to tell your brain to look, really look. For me that has become a meditation practise, switching my brain to another mode.

I pulled out this pack of three canvases thinking I wasn’t going to enjoy the size, and now I’m hooked on this very ratio, and, as I guessed, none of the usual places sell 20x60cm canvases. I don’t know if they were just a trend a couple of decades ago, or if it’s just another Joy of Brexit, but it’s a big nope. The only solution might be to buy canvas on a roll and make my own.

Of course I have a bunch of other canvases to fill, and this idea/sudden obsession might work itself out in the time it takes to fill the three precious canvases I have in this size. Today’s can’t-live-without can be tomorrow’s distant memory in a mind like mine.

I’m probably going to go and browse canvas rolls and stretcher bars though.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
