I added more texture to my very textured portrait today. I used marble dust, which I have never used before, so this is very much a do it and see what happens. I am not by any stretch of the imagination and old master, although my left knee may well be, but not at painting, but I am interested in this technique of adding texture to the highlight areas. I’m not convinced I have the technique or the consistency right, but this is just a throw everything at this painting and see what I like, so it’s fun.

I observed recently that I don’t use charcoal as much as I really should, given how much I enjoy it, so I had a wee portrait session today with it. There’s not much likeness, but I was holding a mirror, which moved, and I was drawing without my glasses on, but it was a good escape from the comfort zones.

These luggage labels have been sat on one of my workbenches for about a week waiting for me to get going with trying out some ideas. The bag of labels cost a quid, so I am not quite sure why I was being precious about ruining them.
I used my Pictish Beastie linocut to block print on three of them, and on the other three there is the very interesting effect of rolling the brayer right after inking the linocut, making a kind of abstract ghost image of the beasties. Then I just played with some texture, mark-making with turquoise and pyrrole orange. No idea where they are going next, but I had fun.
Happy Pride month, as it should be every month. I imagine the UK press will be more polluted than usual with the spewings of the queen bigot and all her acolytes. Ugh.
Til the morn,
