Old and New

I finished a sketchbook today. Yay!

It’s an A4 spiral bound that I think I started all the way back in 2013, so it has been picked up and abandoned a number of times, and it has a lot of different things going on.

I went through a short phase a couple of years ago of covering up pages that I didn’t like, but I don’t do that any more because I think there’s something in practising embracing the shite with the shine, so there are some real geezers in there.

It was a cheap book but the paper was happy to take a beating, and as you can see from the picture, it blooms beautifully.

The sketchbook is sitting on the two new canvases that arrived today in my Jackson’s box. Yes, I have a lot of blank canvases and don’t really need more, but the ones I have are almost all narrow depth. I wanted a couple of gallery canvases for potential submissions to open calls so I don’t have to worry about framing.

The rest of my art haul is a mix of bits and pieces:

The brushes are Pro Arte Bristlene, which I wanted to test out and see if I enjoy them. They are filberts, which I need a few more of for using with oils.

The bottle of Ara acrylic speaks for itself. I tested it for transparency, and it’s lovely and yummy.

The paint set is a set of primaries plus white from the Holbein Duo Aqua range – water mixable oils. I haven’t tried these before, and I’m interested to see how they compare to traditional oils, so I’m excited about that.

The fineliner set was a free gift with my order, and they are lovely pens. Who can refuse a freebie art supply?

The world is going to shit, and the UK government is marching to the right and terrifying me, so I’m celebrating where I can – finishing a sketchbook and new art supplies.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
