For today’s shenanigans I chose a different palette and carried on with the same selfie I’ve been painting from.
It’s very weird to me that my self-portraits are getting more likes over on Bluesky than my other portraits. This adds to the particular vibe that goes along with painting self-portraits.
The palette I chose is not one I have used before, although each of the colours have been used before. I limited myself to Indian Yellow, Quinacridone Rose, and Prussian Blue, plus Titanium White.
I mixed up a few lovely piles, and I really like the way this palette worked. A limited palette is definitely the way to go with one hour painting challenges, because everything works together, and there are fewer choices to make.
I got some new things this weekend. I got a pile of canvas boards in two sizes for an absolute steal. I don’t exactly need more surfaces to paint on, but the price was too good to pass. Chances are a lot of art supplies are going to be more expensive now 🙄 so a bargain is good.
I stocked up on a couple of Liquitex paints that I haven’t found an equivalent for elsewhere. I have yet to see how the oligarch price gouge that has been rolled out is going to affect things, but US brands are going to be impacted, so that’s nice.
Of course I’m just bitching about paint and inks, some people are going to starve, and others are being bombed.
We could be so much more.
Today I read about a Real Housewife of Toronto who is whining about new rules meaning she’ll have to pay tax if she continues to live in her actual fucking castle in England.
She’s very upset about having to consider moving to Italy to avoid tax, because she’s scared they’ll force-feed her carbs.
I think the journalist was trying to present her as a victim of Keir Starmer’s government, while never mentioning the actual millions of actual victims of Keir Starmer’s assaults on livelihoods.
The photo of her is hilarious. She looks like a 1970s toilet roll dolly.
This is why I paint – I get time away from the shitshow that is our world.
Til the morn,
Suzanne.
