I had a really good day in the studio today, one of those days where I felt really inspired and productive.
I started, as has become habit, with my twenty minute morning sketch, and that went ok. It wasn’t a winner, but that happens. After that I did a little studio storage rearranging, and moved my oil paints into a shallow drawer to make them more accessible. The contents of the drawer fit nicely into the now empty tub, and it was a straight swap. I’m going to be using oils every day for the next 88 days at least, so I want getting started to be simplified.
The painting up there is Day 12 of the 100 Days project, and I really like it. Compared to Day1, I feel like I am finding my way with the alla prima process, and finding the way I want to lay paint down. I’m using the challenge to experiment with different ways of doing things, and today’s feels like IT.
I used a limited palette: yellow ochre, alizarin crimson, caput mortuum, turquoise, titanium, and ivory black, and I went with my scratchy brush again, but did use a small long flat for a couple of tiny details in the last minute.
Later on I revisited the large canvas I started last week with @dinoopsis as the inspiration. I am trying to work out what to do with the hands, as I want to exaggerate them a bit. They are in the ugly stage just now.

The other thing I did with this painting today was to make my own stamp for the background. I love doing things like that, but don’t get around to it often enough. I used sticky craft foam and grey board and I quite like how it turned out.
Til the morn,
