
I had the pleasure of a live model again today, although I didn’t have the budget for getting his claes aff 😁 Jokes aside, I am querying with myself why I haven’t made full use of him before now. He’s quite a good sitter.
We did lots of timed poses, mostly full figure poses, and then I finished up with this five minute study of his face.
I love this, because the left side of his face goes a bit skewiff, and this was because I made him crack up laughing, and so his pose had shifted slightly.
A memory of laughter is more important than a likeness, and I’m less and less convinced about the importance of likeness. It’s a good skill to practise, but there are other ways to approach a reference, or in this case a sitter.
