I used to enjoy life drawing in times gone by, but most days I don’t have anyone to draw. Today I did, and boy did my brain fire off. It is a very different process than working from reference photos, and that’s good for the grey matter.
The first pose was absolutely loaded with foreshortening, and you can see that I broke my own “rule” and scored through the first drawing. The second drawing, below it, wasn’t great either.
We changed the pose, and I was warming up a bit for drawing three. The final pose was a standing pose, which is the drawing where I felt like my synapses were kicking in.
These were all fast sketches using gestural lines, and I was using a new pencil to me – a chunky Faber-Castell 9000. These were done in my barely used A3 sketchbook.
It was a really good exercise in getting out of my comfort zone, and I really like that I no longer get too caught up in whether a drawing is good or bad, I just see them all as part of the process.
Til the morn,
