First finished painting of 2025. Yay!
Acrylic on paper, 16×12″ 300gsm watercolour paper.
This is my response to the first class in Let’s Face It 2025, with Kara Bullock. I decided to use the same reference as Kara (from Museum app) but do my own thing with the colour palette, composition, and style.
Instead of my usual sketching with paint, I sketched in the face with charcoal, so that was a nice change. I’m going to list the colours because I am not great at note-taking, and I then go back to something I like and can’t for the life of me remember how I did it.
- Caput mortuum
- Turquoise green
- Ultramarine
- Pyrrole red
- Yellow ochre
- Zinc white
There is an absolutely tiny bit of cool black and titanium white in the eye area, but apart from that every colour I mixed has a combination of all the colours above, with zinc white for the lighter areas.
Oh, mostly used a size 6 and size 10 bright brush, with a wee filbert for the fiddly bits.
I’m leaving the happy accident with the eye to be what it is, because I like it.
First step to an unofficial goal π
Til the morn,
Suzanne
