Foreshortened

I have a stack of unused canvases that should be embarrassing, but they’re not. I do seem to have acquired an excess of little 6″ square ones, tho. I think they are a nice size for friends and family to pick up as gifts for me, and I am never, ever going to say no to gifted art supplies.

So today I dug them all out, and made a little stack and the idea is to fill them with art. If you’ve been following along you’ll know that I have ideas like this frequently, and they often don’t amount to much in the immediate aftermath of the idea, but that’s OK, it’s part of the process.

Today I was haverin about startin a portrait for a Let’s Face It class, and ended up pulling one of the canvases from the stack to start that idea instead – productive procrastination is good, actually.

I’m fascinated with the figure poses that @dinoopis posts for artists on Instagram, and this pose in particular has been getting scribbled into my sketchbook. I am never kind to myself with regards complex poses, and this one is ludicrous and wonderful.

I used charcoal for the drawing, and then ink for the line work, and then blocked in the background with some acrylic. I’m really loving the caput mortuum india ink.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
