Oily Practise

I carried on with my portrait in oils with the interesting eye-roll reference. I think she’s done for now, although I might come back and fiddle a bit more, but for now I am happy with this exercise.

I was thinking about my Word of the Year today – practise – and the way I have plugged away to build a daily practise, and plugged away at portrait sketches, and in the last wee while I feel like that work has paid off.

It means that when I get out of my comfort zone, like using oils for example, I am much more comfortable with the results. It doesn’t have to be the best painting ever, it’s the process that leads to better portraits. The same way I improved the way I look and see, and improved the way I express that, can also come about with more practise in a specific medium. So I want to dust off the oils more often.

With that in mind, after I finished her eye-rolling self, I just carried straight on with the other painting I sketched the other day, and thoroughly enjoyed myself getting her this far…

Dancing and painting while freaking out about the state of the human race.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
