Used Book Inspo

Today I’ve been playing with gel plates, but there’s nothing particularly interesting to show for it, so far. The new mini plate (3×5″) is just so good for my A5 mixed media art journal, I’m in heaven.

For the blog, I thought I’d share my book haul from my trip last week.

They are all second-hand, a couple from the famous and amazing Leakey’s Bookshop in Inverness, which I simply did not have enough time in, as we were between trains.

The rest are from various charity shops in Stromness, in Orkney, and we’re absolute unadulterated bargains, and some helped cats, so extra points.

From top-left:

  • The necessary Leakey’s book bag, which almost managed to take the entire stash home
  • Image of the Body – photography, sculpture, and art of the human body, and as I discovered, needs care opening on a train 😂 (Leakey’s)
  • Outdoors – this is a huge, photo-rich, tome on garden design which I want to use as a reference source.
  • The Great Wood of Caledon – trees and wildlife of Scotland. Another reference source, and also one if those unusual books that are just great finds.
  • A bunch of old abandoned sheet music – vintage papers for collage fodder. 20p a book. Bargain.
  • Composition – a little book that does what it says on the cover. It was 50p, so easy to add to the pile.
  • Taschen books – Leonardo and O’Keefe. These were also bargains I couldn’t leave behind, excellent for the art shelf.
  • The World of Mary Ellen Best – an interesting overview of this fascinating artist, with lots of gorgeous pages of her art, and the way she painted interiors and women’s lives. (Leakey’s)

I should really take a suitcase on wheels if I am going anywhere near second hand booksellers.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
