I figured out my weird mood yesterday when I woke up this morning with the delights of an aura migraine. Yum. Of course it’s very sunny today, which amplifies the various elements of my frothy duvet brain. This too shall pass.
Despite my affliction, I got a lot more into arting today than I did yesterday, with lots of little bits and pieces going on. For today’s post I’ll show the art journal spread I started, which is now resting overnight to see if I want to push it further.
I worked in a large A4 ish journal that I have only filled one spread of previously. I’ll put the link below. It’s got sturdy pages, so will take a lot of beating for mixed media.
I started out with collage – ripped up some book pages from a novel that I need to recycle because the author transformed herself into a bigot. Collage fodder it is. Every time I recycle her I imagine transforming fash into something else, magical art, and we need a bit of that, this week. Well, we need it every week, really.
Anyway, I ripped and glued and made the first layer, and then I looked at the torn pieces of text and circled a few interesting phrases, before smearing some acrylic paint in four colours over the whole thing.
I pushed the paint back with a very thing layer of white acrylic which I wiped with a sponge so it was translucent. Next I did some stencilling with black paint, and the pushed everything back with one of my favourite supplies – iridescent graphite acrylic. It’s so lusciously grungey 🙂
I printed off two photos of things I have made previously. The first is a photo of an art journal page that I like, the second is a photo of some collage play that I did for another piece. I collaged them in place, and used the iridescent graphite to push them into the page. A bit more paint and some Neocolor II to pull some colour back out, and I will see if I want to take it further tomorrow.

Til the morn,
Suzanne
