Sketchbook Skull

Today’s excitement was the arrival of two parcels that are most of the result of birthday spendies. Birthday cash or vouchers to spend on art supplies is never going to get dull. One of the things that arrived is a copy of a book I’ve had on my wishlist for a while – Facial Expressions: A Visual Reference for Artists.

It basically does what it says on the tin, it’s page after page of reference photos of people showing different angles, expressions and emotions. The photos are all small, as the cover shows, but I’m not particularly bothered by that, and I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of the book, especially on days when I am drawing a blank over what to draw.

There are also some skull reference photos, using real human skulls, which are a good study aid for remembering what is going under the skin. Also, skulls are just fun, so I got stuck in and did some sketchbook practise…

It’s not a self-portrait but it’s kind of the mood I am in, and I am full of ideas this week.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
