Charcoal Perspective

I surprised myself by sticking with the goal and doing the 100 Day Project, and I surprised myself again today by tackling this week’s Let’s Face It class and completing it on the same day.

Despite being a wee bit intimidated by the class objectives…

To use charcoal powder and a square Sofft tool to draw a figure with an interesting background.

I love charcoal, but I’m not exactly practised with loose powder, and the Sofft tools, in fact my square ones had never been used. Until today.

I chose a different reference (Unsplash), and once I got started, I decided that my reference was probably more challenging than the class example. Oh well.

There’s a lot going on with perspective for this one, and the general guideline was to abstract things a bit, which I guess I achieved – and that’s my explanantion for the vertical lines having little wonky parties 😀

The square sponge is good for loosening up because you can’t be too precise, and I am very proud of my globe lamp in the background, it’s just delicious. So look at the light, because the figure herself is not great. I really didn’t focus on her much, and should possibly blur her a bit more, but it was a fun exercise and I’m pleased.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
