Filling Pages

100 Day Project Day 97

Continuing the Sketchbook Project of finishing my current A5 spiralbound sketchbook the same day I finish the 100 Day Project, I had the target of filling four pages today, and what do I do? Yes, I start flinging wet materials including modelling paste at the first spread, which means waiting for it to dry properly before I can finish the page, never mind turn the page and work on the second spread.

This was all a continuation of another sketchbook project I started yesterday which is so far very fun and very messy. I got another new sketchbook, this time an A5 casebound one, with an idea in mind. Yes, I got another new sketchbook. I’ve decided there’s no such thing as too many sketchbooks.

The process for this new sketchbook is something I’ve done before with a couple of A6 small studio sketchbooks, so this is expanding on the idea with a larger format with more pages. The idea is to work on all the pages randomly, doing mark-making and all sorts of play, building layers and texture and eventually resolving each page or spread, or not – some pages are just about colour and texture, or preserving moments that might inspire some other work.

It’s a really fun process, and perfect for days when I’m not sure what I want to do.

The sketchbook is a day old, and already there is some form of mark-making on every page, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes. So far I have used stamping, stencilling, acrylics, inks, watercolours, pastel pencils and a bamboo dip pen.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
