Not Painting That

100 Day Project Day 88

How I have procrastinated about a small watercolour portrait class today…. four pages in my A5 spiralbound sketchbook – two pages of graphite sketching, and two pages of Neocolor IIs sketching… making a mixed media background spread in my little square sketchbook… making another background in my altered book project… meanwhile the watercolours are laid out on a table taunting me 🙂

How I procrastinated about this watercolour painting after I wrote the above papargraph as an attempt to kick ma ain bahoochie…. watched a video on mixing skin tones that did not teach me anything I don’t already know, but I felt like I was Doing The Project… collected together a bunch of things that needed multiple fixative applications and went outside and did that… took down a door curtain that stops draughts in winter, put it through a quick-wash, and hung it outside – that’s a documented thirty-five minutes of Not Doing The Project because that’s how long the quick-wash is.

I mean I haven’t actually timed it, and I know there’s a thing on social media where folk are timing their washing machines and declaring them liars, but hey – writing this is also Not Doing The Project, in fact it’s Knowingly and Actively Avoiding Doing The Project.

OK I have just stopped writing this to peel paint off my silicone painting wedge.

Help.

Later…

I’m going to leave the above in this blog as a record of my process. I might find it entertaining one day 🙂

It did motivate me to do some work with this project, even if it was just mixing skin tones and swatching in a sketchbook. I am quite comfortable with not being a watercolourist, especially a realistic skin tones watercolourist, but I do want to make a passable attempt at this one.

On the plus side, all those pieces getting the fixative treatment has resulted in a good shift of energy in my Room. Productive Procrastination is better than the other kind.

Here’s a snippet from some of the other things I did instead of painting a small watercolour portrait.

Will I paint it the morn? Place your bets here.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
