The Overton Window Is Broken

Someone clearly smashed the Overton Window, because today UK Labour welcomed with fanfares the defection to their party of one of the most unpleasant Tory MPs in Westminster. She’s an anti-abortion, racist, homophobic, transphobic, sex offender defending, survivor attacking horror crank, and UK Labour are happy to have her.

In Scotland, the SNP elevated Kate Forbes to Deputy First Minister. She’s an anti-abortion, homophobic, transphobic, fiscal and social conservative who colluded with Michael Gove to install freeports in Scotland, and believe no-one should be having sex/babies outside marriage.

We have never needed independence more than at this moment, and I just see it slipping farther away as the SNP continue to pander to the right wing cranks.

I really was not intending for this blog to be about my politics, but I am a very political person, and the world is a LOT just now, so it is what it is.

I’m a queer, neurodivergent, woman who grew up in a single-parent family after my mother divorced my violent father. The way Kate Forbes talks about people gives me The Fear for a number of reasons.

Lois McLatchie of the ADF has spent the day liking all the tweets announcing Forbes’ new position in government. The ADF plough money into places like Uganda, promoting anti-gay legislation that now sees LGBTQ+ folk facing the death penalty.

So you’ll excuse me if all I have today is a quick sketch of a hare, and not even the energy to write about what the hare symbolises to me.
