100 Day Project Day 58
Happy Monday, or as close to something resembling happy as you can get. If your Monday is as blue as fuck, or some sort of dirty shade of mud you weren’t meaning to mix with paint, that’s valid too, don’t feel pressure from my greeting to be anything other than you are.
I wasn’t happy yesterday, quite the opposite, today is an improvement.
I did some shite sketches in my wee fineliner sketchbook. I’m highly amused at them. I am filling this book in chronological orde, so the received wisdom is that this will show progression, improvement, and the pages at the end will be millions of times better than the pages at the front.
That is just another sneaky way for an inner critic to start setting up blocks.
The real beauty of filling the pages chronologically is that it’s a journey with ups and downs, good sketches and bad, because that’s how art goes.
After warming up there, I went back to the colour play from the other day, and used that painting as a colour reference. When I had finished painting the other day, I used up the leftover paint in my junk journal and made a messy background on a spread. I used that spread as the substrate for today’s play.
I didn’t work the page on the left, and it is a fair representation of what I had to start with on the right hand page. I just mixed a lightest light and a darkest dark and made messy marks until a face started to emerge. This is a favourite process of mine. Once the bare bones were down (see what I did) (sorry I’ll get my coat) I mixed a few more colours and just kept layering until I was done.

Tomorrow I can come back and finish the page, and the spread, and maybe that will be my way in, or warm-up.
Til the morn,
Suzanne
