More Gesture Drawing

100 Day Project Day 48

Today’s practise included more gesture drawing in my sketchbooks. I am currently working in an A5 spiral bound book, and a cheap A4 hardcover thing I found on a shelf. The paper in that one isn’t great, so I coat it with sludge gesso before I use it for painting.

I used a very cheap, unrefined brush and some gouache to do my sketching, and the practise is all about getting proportions right with quick, loose mark-making.

For this spread below, I used a drawing from my very small sketchbook where I work in fineliner as my reference.
